A common enough piece of road fixture, this drain was made by Herbert and Young in their foundry in Gloucestershire. Originally starting as the Cannop Foundry at Howler's Slade by Trotter, Thomas and Company in 1835, they were taken over by Thomas Herbert and Richard Young in 1893. That firm produced lots of cast iron products before closing in 1990. See Image] for a location view of the (many such) drains along the Cross Hands Road.
