This notice is in a bus shelter in Station Approach opposite Chorleywood Railway Station. It has the following wording and image: A history of bus services in Chorleywood, while you wait..... Route 336 came into existence in 1934, when London Transport re-numbered route 6 which it had taken over from London General Country Services. In 1960 Chorleywood Railway Station used to be served by 22 buses in each direction Monday to Friday, 20 on a Saturday and 8 on a Sunday on the route from Watford Leavesden Road to what is now called The Generals Arms in Chesham serving along the route Watford Metropolitan Line station and Chenies School. Weekday services used to run from 6:56 in the morning from this stop towards Watford until 21:19 at night, with Saturday services starting at 8:00 finishing at 22:20, and Sunday services starting at 10:16 finishing at 21:54. Image of London Country AEC Regal IV RF550 (NLE 550) bus in Chesham Broadway on route 336 to Chorleywood Green Street In 1961 the electrification of the Metropolitan Railway was completed from Amersham to Rickmansworth, by 1968 Chorleywood station was getting a service of 8 trains an hour into London, some being fast and some being all station services as well as a complement of 22 buses a day. In 1992 the 336 service was withdrawn with Chorleywood not being served by buses, then a decade later in 2002 Carousel Buses brought it back with 8 buses a day, and in 2009 changing the route once again to operate via Amersham to High Wycombe. In July 2022 the service was lost and taken over by Arriva operating 9 services Monday to Saturday but only 4 buses to Amersham. Which takes us to the present day with no more services to Amersham although 9 buses in one direction Monday to Saturday to Watford. Turns out a lot can change in 63 years. It's a shame how Chorleywood used to be such a well connected village, but no longer. Incidentally, the current route 336 is now operated by Red Rose Travel between Chorleywood and Watford/North Bushey on Mondays to Saturdays, the timetable being at https://passenger-line-assets.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/mytrip/service/c4b6bc9d-4c67-476f-b74e-07bc9fb4eab7-timetable-20231120-94a9373b.pdf. There is no bus service now between Chorleywood, Little Chalfont and Amersham.
