Given the important military role Hayling Island had in the Second World War and the use of its branch railway to bring in supplies, the forthcoming production of 'Allo 'Allo, a popular wartime comedy, seems appropriate. The railway was closed in 1963 and all buildings other than the old goods shed were demolished. In 1992 the shed was acquired in a derelict condition by the Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society who were able to convert it into a 144 seat working theatre with the help of fund-raising efforts and council grants.
