The Devizes Assizes once held the fate of the defendents in the balance of law. Now the site's future is being held up for judgement after many years of service. Built in 1835, the rooms held regular court sessions but stopped in the 1980s, leaving the Grade II listed structure abandoned and put on the 'at risk' register. Now moves are starting to gather momentum to turn it into the new Wiltshire Museum. Some £300,000 has been awarded from the Lottery Fund, along with other supporters, to create the new community centre.
