Marked on map as Spa Villar. The discovery of mineral springs (the 1891 25 inch map gives them as Sulphur- Sodiac and Chalybete) and the advent of the railway gave rise to the vision of Hovingham becoming a Spa destination to rival Harrogate or Buxton; however Spa House and the Worsley Hotel in Hovingham was as far as the dream reached.
