Situated at St Nicholas' Church Gardens on Lowther Street, this mosaic memorial was unveiled on 15 August 1998. The inscription in the form of a pit head winding wheel reads, "In memory of the one thousand two hundred men women and children who lost their lives in the Whitehaven coalmines 1597-1987".
