Liverpool Skyline from Birkenhead

This panorama was taken from the Woodside Walkway, on the edge of the River Mersey at Birkenhead. The span of the panorama essentially constitutes the focus of Liverpool's waterside skyline, although the city centre indeed spreads further and more recent high-rise development also continues further. Of the high-rise developments, from left to right, there are the following: Alexandra Tower; 1 Princes Dock; Infinity (failed construction project); The Lexington (the big box divided into three columns); The Beetham Tower (concrete box with a curved front elevation); West Tower (not box); The Plaza (wide box topped with a black box); the Post & Echo Building (big box topped with beige box); New Hall Place (heap of beige boxes); Unity Residential (Slender box topped with a shiny silver box); Pall Mall Press (beige box in the distance); Unity Commercial (stack of metallic boxes); the Liver Building and its two other Graces; The Georges Dock Building (offices and ventilation shaft for the Queensway Tunnel). The box form is certainly an irrepressible theme, but perhaps less than in other cities. At Liverpool, the skyline presently retains a liveliness without excessive overdevelopment - care must be taken to ensure that it remains that way in future.
