The spur of the hill has some rocky outcrops on the ridge. The soil is thin, rushes and tussocky grass predominate and do not provide much nourishment for the sheep. The dark spikes of young gorse plants can be seen, and as animals find gorse too prickly to graze, the gorse is likely to flourish and in a few years' time, this slope is likely to be covered with yellow-flowered gorse bushes.
