A small pedestal by the Co-op bears tribute to the town's friendship with parts of France. The legend marks 1974-94, along with Jumelage, Gennes & Les Rosiers. It appears that some sort of gnomon is missing and the engraver spelled 'friendship' with an initial 'E'. The latter has been partly fudged. See Image] for a wider view under the blossom.
