Part of the Peabody Trust, a charitable housing foundation set up in 1862 by the American financier and philanthropist George Peabody who made his fortune in Baltimore but became an influential figure in Britain. Among many other beneficial works on both sides of the Atlantic he founded the Peabody Trust to house the poor of London and expressly stated that his institutions were not to be used to nurture sectarian theology or political dissension.
