Hidden below a massive bridge runs the ill fated course of the Midland Railway's West Riding lines route that might have connected Sheffield and Bradford. From Royston to the south it ran out of steam at Dewsbury, there were too many interwoven lines, see this old map:https://flickr.com/photos/ravensthorpe/5492095496
