Opened in 1876 by the Taff Vale railway on the line that now runs from Cardiff to Treherbert, this station replaced an earlier one located 240m north west, by the (barely visible!) bow bridge in the distance. View north west towards Dinas Rhondda and Treherbert, shortly after the line was electrified and a new interchange building constructed. See Image for an earlier view from a similar camera position. Porth was also formerly the junction for the line to Maerdy which diverged to the right at the far end of the current platform (now the A4233). The right hand platform was also an island platform at that time.
