Beside the B5278 road in Haverthwaite village, Melody House was formerly a pub called the Hark-to-Melody. The pub was apparently named after a favourite foxhound. It is reputed that the huntsman John Peel (made famous in the song D'ye ken John Peel) was an occasional customer here. That may be wishful thinking as the pub is far from John Peel’s farm at Ruthwaite, however he is known to have travelled widely in his pursuit of fox hunting. The pub gave its name to the nearby railway bridge (now partly dismantled) visible in the right background (photograph Image).
