The roofs of the School and the shop can just be seen in the middle foreground The school, now a state nursery school, was once referred to as "Col. Nicol's School", after the patronage of his forebears who built it. At the time that the photograph was taken Col. Nicol was still alive and living locally. He had recently celebrated his 90th Birthday. However since then Colonel John Nicol of Ballogie died on 29th September 2008, aged 96.
