The micropub concept seems to have originated in Kent and was an attempt to return to the basics of good beer and conversation usually in a small single room without the distractions of food, music or fruit machines. The idea quickly spread and reached Tamworth in 2014 in the form of the King's Ditch housed in a former cycle shop on Lower Gungate. Micropubs often have quirky names and this one refers to a local Saxon fortification built in the time of either King Aethelfaed or King Offa.
