For the second time today I have to scramble to don full waterproofs. The rain is falling and worsening rapidly and here I hop on one foot whilst trying to get my gangly leg to propel my very muddy boot correctly through the waistband of my trousers and out through the side-zip venting so that I can do the same with the other leg. Much swearing and huffing is involved. My muddy boots make the inside of the waterproof trousers muddy, which makes my walking trousers muddy and wet and the more clumsy I am the muddier the results will be. I manage to achieve the process, albeit slowly, breathlessly and needing to apply a running commentary, both in my head and actually out loud, intended to motivate myself to be more efficient, which might save a few seconds. Once they are all on, I take a deep breath and snap the scene. Now I am ready to move on.
