This step-stone milestone may have been set up by the 8.8 mile long Hull, Preston and Hedon Turnpike Trust which was operative from 1745 to 1878. It is opposite a petrol station just south of the turn for Preston. It's inscription may have been TO HULL/V MILES. On the 1910 OS map it shows Hull 5.
