The left hand house was previously a public house on which a benchmark was levelled at 105.173 feet above Liverpool Datum during the 1843/4 Kendal to Carlisle 1GL Survey. The surveyor's description was 'No. 360. Mark on North-west corner of the Fox and Hounds Inn, Moorend ; 4.81 ft. above road'
