As the name suggests there was a ferry here once that charged for those wishing to cross Ferry Channel. The Selsey Tramway was the first to bridge the point to the east in 1897 and a roadbridge followed in 1909 making the ferryman redundant. The current road is the B2145 which is allegedly the busiest B road in the UK.
