This will be the grave of a woodcutter as the figure is taking an axe to a tree. He is standing on a winged soul which is a symbol of immortality representing the soul of the deceased’s journey towards Heaven. The stone has sunk into the ground over the years and only the top of a skull, a symbol of mortality, is showing at the bottom.
