The stone is located in a small garden beside the George Hotel. It had previously been situated in the High Street. According to the sign behind the stone: CUSTOM STONE OF HADDINGTON THIS ANCIENT STONE WAS FOR CENTURIES THE SEAT OF THE TACKSMAN WHEN PETTY CUSTOMS WERE LEVIED IN THE BURGH
