It is hard to believe now but at one time Quorn was quite an industrial place. The largest factory was Wright's Mill built on the site of a water-powered flour mill. Wright's initially worked with lace and cotton but came to specialise in elastic webbing products from the mid-19th century. Around the time of the First World War 2,000 workers were employed here. The mill's 96ft high chimney was demolished in 1996. Today, much of the site has been converted into apartments but the original company continues, albeit on a much reduced scale, as M Wright & Sons Ltd.
