Only two of these posts have been found on the 21 miles of A171 between Scarborough and Whitby. This one is outside No. 48 High Street, Burniston but over the years the tarmac pavement has been raised with only about half the milepost showing. MILES cast on each face is below the tarmac. However it has been painted since 2010. This post was cast by F Mattison & Co. Bedale about the end of the 19th century.
