This elephantine edifice, by Dunn & Hansom, 1877-80, was in fact never finished. It should have been even bigger and even more orange. Decorative entrance section (Image]). The mass of brick and terracotta conceals behind what was the Manchester Aquarium which opened in 1872 but closed only four years later. Grade II listed. It is now a private school.
