St Nicholas' Church is situated at the bottom of the Lanark High Street, at the intersection between the High Street, Castlegate & Wellgate. This was used by William Wallace at his time in history, the parish church was smaller during this time. During renovations of the church, pottery along with skeleton remains were found, this included a female who is believed to have lived around the same period as William Wallace.
