This late 19th century wooden building has some claim in history as recorded by the two plaques either side of the window by the entrance: The inaugural meeting of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institutes was held in this building on 26th June 1917, with Mrs Catherine Blair of Hoprig Mains in the chair This building was, about the year 1890, gifted to the small village of Longniddry as a Reading Room by Anna Frederica Anson Countess of Wemyss and March
