More brambles to tug at my walking trousers, snag my progress, slow me down and frustrate my plans...But on I went, using a stick I found to tackle the worst cable-like briars and make slow progress along my intended route. My wife will no longer accompany me on my 'crazy challenge walks' as she calls them - the ones where footpaths vanish, where furious farm dogs snarl and threaten to snap their chains and we fall merrily into stagnant ditches, scutter and skid through fresh slurry piles and forge through barbed-wire in fields where no one has walked since 1972.... Trouble is, I love these walks, though my body complains afterwards! Ah well, ever onwards!
