It is not normal to mount a clockface on a spire, what with spires being odd shapes and tapering. But the tower beneath the spire is short and so a clockface mounted there would not be very visible. There are two of these faces, on opposite sides of the spire. This one looks West, and is visible from the market place. The clock was installed in 1909 by Potts (of Leeds), and was restored in 2021. On both occasions the costs were covered by a public subscrition within the town. The work was undertaken by Smiths of Derby.
