The church, designed by Richard Gilbert Scott, was built 1968-69. It is roughly hexagonal in plan, with a fan-shaped interior, the roof rising towards the sanctuary. The layout reflects the changes in Catholic worship introduced by the Second Vatican Council (1962-65); see Scott's church at Kitts Green, not far from Sheldon, Image], for another example.
