New houses are being built for South Ayrshire Council on the former educational site that held both Mainholm Academy and Queen Margaret Academy. A new Queen Margaret Academy was built on the edge of Ayr in 1976 Image with a replacement on the same site in 2019 Image Mainholm Academy was not replaced after its closure in 2007 Image Pupils were reallocated to other schools in the town.
