There has been a house here on this site since 1254, although the present building is mainly C15. During the C17 it was heightened, and further altered during the C19. Its odd name is derived from the fact the present building stands on the site of a medieval bishop's storehouse. Grade II* Listed, the building currently houses The Rifles, the official museum of The Royal Berkshire, and Wiltshire Regiments.
