The octagonal font bears several, mostly abbreviated inscriptions. one of which is C R 1662, indicating it dates from the Restoration of the Monarchy after the Civil War, as indeed do many such fonts. Another side indicates the old spelling of the place name (Wrothwell). There is a splendid wooden counterbalanced cover of the 19th century (only the base of which is seen here).
