Having been through a number of transformations since being built in the 18th century from a gunsmith's shop, a brass foundry. In 1890, it was converted into a public house owned by Colchester Brewery, with landlord Robert Charlish. In 1912, it became Dickerson’s Beer House and Refreshment Rooms. Harry Dickerson was also a basket maker and made good use of the shop. It was however short lived and was sold in 1920. In 1927, it was bought by John Playford a tailor, in 1936, it was a fish and chip shop and remained so until the 1960s. Today it is a pizza outlet.
