The building was constructed on Derby Road and opened in 1884 for the Watford Endowed Schools. These later became the town's Boys' and Girls' Grammar Schools, who moved out to their current larger premises in 1912 and 1907 respectively. Carved into the brickwork above the main entrance are the words "Higher Elementary Schools". Today the building is the Central Primary School whose website is here http://www.central.herts.sch.uk/
