Unfortunately these are not a one-off, although the far nicer mini-amphitheatre benches beyond may well be. There are already dozens of these dotted around the otherwise promising-looking open green spaces of the new West Craigs housing development, just East of Edinburgh airport. Whilst they are not as uncomfortable as they look, if you had one in your garden it wouldn't be long before you hunted out a bit of plywood to create a more traditional platform. Another design flaw is that the gaps will become filled by folded-up crisp packets and whatever else is to hand that can be jammed in them, as that is just what people do.
