Situated overlooking the Forth and Clyde Canal behind flats on Southbank Road. According to a metal plaque attached to it: STRATHKELVIN DISTRICT COUNCIL THIS FORGING HAMMER WAS BUILT IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THE 20th CENTURY AND WORKED AT THE “STAR” FOUNDRY IN SOUTHBANK ROAD FROM THE 1930’S UNTIL 1981. IT WAS GENEROUSLY DONATED TO THE TOWN BY GLYNWED FOUNDRIES LIMITED AND WAS INSTALLED HERE THROUGH THE KINDNESS OF M.T.D. CRANES Ltd ROBESLEE CONCRETE COMPANY Ltd AND HOWIE AND SONS Ltd KIRKINTILLOCH NOVEMBER 1981. The oval plate visible on this side Image reads: P&W MACLELLAN Ltd Engineers GLASGOW
