The photo shows the red granite drinking fountain presented to Montrose by William Black Esq, London, 1859. The fountain is situated at the North Port on Montrose High Street near the site of the old Port Well which was used by housewives to draw water. Written in gold letters, the inscription reads "Presented to his native town by William Black Esq. London 1859."
