A gap in the trees where a landslip occurred on the west bank of the Slitrig Water has allowed a view of this late 18th century house designed by Robert Adam and later modified. It is on the site of an earlier building, a stronghold of the Elliot family. See https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200332903-stobs-castle-cavers for some more background.
