On the A629 Halifax Road is a 2 mile TO and FROM stone, the last before reaching the old town boundary. It is on the pavement in front of Shire Link Van Hire. These stones were set up by the Town Watch Committee to regulate the Hansom Cab Fare-stages. Starting at 1 mile they were then set at ½ mile intervals to the town boundary. The 1½ TO and FROM stone on this route was photographed in 2003 but was lost through a vehicle collision about 2009. On the north side of the road leading into the city, the legends are - Left face - TO/HUDDERSFIELD/2 MILES. Right face - FROM/HUDDERSFIELD/2 MILES. There is a cut benchmark on the top edge.
