Hope Valley Line, Dore and Totley Railway Station

Dore and Totley railway station serves the south-western suburbs of Dore and Totley approximately 4¾ south west of Sheffield city centre. The station is served by the Northern service between Sheffield and Manchester, East Midlands Railway service from Liverpool to Norwich and the TransPennine Express service between Manchester and Cleethorpes, all three running via the Hope Valley Line. The station was opened by the Midland Railway in 1872 as Dore and Totley on the Midland Main Line extension from Chesterfield to Sheffield. In 1894, the station became the junction for the new Dore and Chinley line (now the Hope Valley Line). Following the Beeching cuts (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beeching_cuts ) in the 1960s which saw neighbouring Beauchief, Millhouses and Heeley stations all close, Dore and Totley became south Sheffield's only remaining station. The station is unstaffed with a self-service ticket machine available. The old station buildings are now in private commercial use as a restaurant. A small brick waiting shelter is provided at the northern end of the platform, along with passenger information displays, automatic announcements and timetable poster boards to offer train running information. Step-free access is available from the adjacent car park to the platform.
