The memorial is in the form of a large sandstone ashlar pillar resembling a cenotaph but without any representation of a tomb. The front face has a carved wreath at the head and the words PRO PATRIA. It is grade II-listed (List Entry No: 1334500 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1334500?section=official-list-entry Historic England).
