Mile Tree Lane meets Parrotts Grove

This change of street name, on a near-straight stretch of country road running from Hawkesbury, on the edge of Coventry, to Bulkington, is odd. There is no parish boundary here today. This was, historically, the furthest point of the parish of Foleshill. Parrotts Grove, on the Foleshill side, takes its name from the Parrott family of Hawkesbury Hall, who had been operating coal mines in the area from the 1720s; see the Victoria County History of Warwickshire https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/warks/vol8/pp57-70#h3-0002 ; see also Fry, D & Smith, A, The Coventry we have lost: Forgotten Foleshill, Simanda Press, 2018, which shows the Foleshill parish boundaries in 1899 superimposed on a later map on the back cover. Most of Foleshill had become part of Coventry by 1932, with the outer reaches here becoming part of Bedworth.
