Home of Sunderland AFC, as seen from the opposite bank of the River Wear. The stadium takes its name to reflect the mining heritage from the former Monkwearmouth Colliery upon which the structure stands. Nothing to do with the Estadio Da Luz in Lisbon, home of Benfica, then ! Opened in 1997 to replace the stadium at Roker Park, with a capacity of 49,000.
