Waiting for the gates to close on this deep lock, showing detail of the gate mitre and tail-end footbridge. The elegant and functional simplicity of the cantilevered bridge sections must be admired, with their central slot for the towing line of a horse-drawn boat to pass (now diminished due to settlement).
