Grade II Listed mid 19th century building, listed in 1986 as Fayre Enough Restaurant. Where There's Smoke opened in 2022 having previously been Vennell’s Restaurant since 2005. Harrogate Advertiser described the property in 2022 as comprising 'a contemporary ground floor dining area, private dining room and exceptional living accommodation'. In July 1977 planning approved Danby's Silver Street conversion from shop to shop and restaurant and it was still referred to as Danby's in 1981. In 1982 it was referred to as Crabtree South. Obviously in 1986 it was Fayre Enough but by 1988 it was The Floodlight Restaurant. I had a look in a couple of directories to see if I could identify it as a shop from new build but without numbers, that are unreliable anyway, it was impossible. Commercial entries in 1841 for Silver Street included only Charlotte Clarkson, grocer & sundries and Sarah Backhouse china and earthenware dealer. By 1893 there were 4 grocers, one with wine and one run by a Clarkson. There were also two boot makers, a butcher, tailor, hair dresser, saddler, draper, milliner, joiner and Wilson Thomas, flour dealer & town crier.
