St Catherines's College - known to all as Catz - was Danish architect Arne Jacobsen's masterpiece. His attention to detail was astonishing - quite apart from designing the buildings themselves he also designed the furniture and specified items such as the cutlery and, it is said, the species of fish for the moat. The result may sometimes have prioritised aesthetics over practicality and comfort but the overall effect is impressive and the building is now grade I listed. Barbara Hepworth's sculpture 'Achaean' stands on the lawn beside the moat, its curves contrasting with the straight lines of the building.
