The photograph was taken from a Birmingham-bound Chiltern Railways service speeding out of Marylebone; the view is back toward the HS2 works at West Ruislip where the line will emerge from under west London at the western portal of the Northolt Tunnels. What follows is partly speculation. A short way to the west of the tunnel the railway has to cross a river and a road. The photo shows the partly-constructed bridge over Breakspear Road South. The shiny new conveyor belt structure is incomplete – no belt – but it supports the idea that this area will be the destination for spoil from the tunnel-boring; the spoil being used to construct the embankment that will carry the railway at bridge-height.
