These boxes only actually went up in the 1930s and there were originally about 140 of them. About half remain, a number of which have been turned into coffee kiosks and the like; this one may be the next. They were all fitted with running water and a sink, along with a small heater, fitted exclusively for the benefit of the pipes leading to the sink by the sound of it. Someone online mentions that the sinks were dated, allowing dating of the box, but if so it can't be seen from this viewpoint. The only other thing of note was a small wooden 'seat' jutting out of the right hand wall (or panel), which may or may not have been hinged. This is where interviewees, crime victims and prisoners-to-be would sit and talk, or just wait.
