Milton Keynes can seem a bit baffling, not least because driving through it on the main roads hardly feels like passing through an urban area at all. In fact it is neatly divided into a series of districts bounded by the road grid. In addition to the roads, there is a network of 'Redways' which are joint cycle and pedestrian paths designed to avoid conflicts with traffic. At strategic locations an information and map board is provided such as this one at Winterhill; two people can be seen strolling along the path ahead. In all, the Redway network extends over 200 miles.
