Castlegate is a pedestriansed square in the centre of Aberdeen. The city's market cross stands in the middle of the square. It is a scheduled ancient monument. In the foreground is a Royal Mail post box, painted gold in honour of Katherine Grainger, an Olympic athlete from Aberdeenshire who won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games. The building in the background with the tall clock tower is Aberdeen's Town House, headquarters of Aberdeen City Council. The building is listed under category A
